VALDOSTA, Ga. – Freshman
Tate Ragsdale wasted little time putting his name atop the Georgia Southwestern State University men's cross country record book, posting the fastest 7.25K time in program history Friday evening at the VSU Border Clash.
Ragsdale crossed the finish line in 28:43.6 to place 22nd overall and lead the Hurricanes. His performance highlighted a strong showing at the distance for GSW, as
Joseph Esco and
Trey Reid joined Ragsdale with times that rank among the five fastest 7.25K performances in program history.
The Hurricanes battled soggy conditions throughout the race after storms in the area delayed the start by approximately 20 minutes. Light rain continued as the field navigated the wet course.
Esco followed Ragsdale across the line in 24th place, clocking a 29:21.6 that ranks third in GSW history at the distance. Reid added the fifth-fastest 7.25K in program history with a time of 30:57.9 to finish 30th overall.
Michael Korfhage was the fourth Hurricane to finish, placing 40th in 34:21.1, while
Gerona Williams rounded out the scoring five in 48th with a time of 48:19.9.
As a team, Georgia Southwestern finished sixth in the seven-team field with 135 points. The Hurricanes posted a total time of 2:51:44 and an average of 34:20.
Host Valdosta State swept the top five scoring positions to win the team title with 15 points, while Flagler finished second with 43. ABAC took third with 108 points, followed by Enterprise State Community College with 110 and LBW Community College with 129.
