Newcomers Post Some of Program's Best Times in Opening Race

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Georgia Southwestern State University cross country teams took to the Apalachee Regional Country Course at the HOKA + Nights of Thunder XC Fest on Friday evening. Freshman Graham Harrod led the Hurricanes by posting the second-fastest 8K time in program history with fellow newcomer Joseph Esco eight seconds behind for the third-fastest time as the men finished eighth of nine teams while the GSW women finished 14th of 14 schools.  


Men's Recap

Harrod led the Hurricanes by crossing the line in 28:51.0, to take 27th place out of 91 runners. Harrod's time clocked in as the second-fastest in the seven years of GSW's program history. Right behind him was Esco in 29th place. 

Florida Southern College, won the team title with 15 overall points, 69 ahead of runner-up Saint Leo University (84). The Hurricanes finished with 187 points, 10 points behind seventh place Florida Gateway College. 

Christian Giller from Florida Southern crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 25:24.5.

Women's Recap

Lance, a freshman, paced the Lady Hurricanes by completing the 5K course in 25:27.3, to take 86th place out of 121 runners. 

Florida Southern College won the team title with 30 overall points, 30 ahead of runner-up NCAA DI member Georgia Southern University (60). The Hurricanes finished with 390 points, 17 points behind 13th place Edward Waters University. 

Tara Bert from NCAA DI member Florida A&M crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 18:37.7.
