AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University women's soccer team made program history Wednesday night with a 4-0 win over Albany State University at Hurricane Field by earning their third consecutive Peach Belt Conference victory. It's the first time the Lady Hurricanes have won three PBC matches in a row and, with a conference record of 3-2 under first-year head coach Jacob Crawford, they have also set a program high for most wins in a season.
As has been the case all year, GSW got offensive production from multiple players as the four Lady Hurricane goals were scored by four different players on Wednesday. Chloe Iuliano opened the scoring with a header off a corner kick from Sydney Weslowski at the start of the 18th minute for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Cassidy Brunner gave the Lady Hurricanes a two-goal advantage in the 24th minute with her third goal of the season off a feed from Emily Davis.
GSW took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. Weslowski scored in the 76th minute off a rebound on a save attempt from a shot by Ella Moody to stretch the lead to 3-0 and Kira Wilson closed out the scoring with her first goal of the fall off a cross from Moody that led to a touch pass from Jada Thomas.
The GSW defense turned in their second consecutive shutout and fourth overall for the season holding Albany State to three shots. PBC Goalkeeper of the Week Alana Beddow combined with Bella Morey for the clean sheet.
The Lady Hurricanes travel to Dahlonega, Ga., Saturday to face the University of North Georgia (8-1-1, 4-0-1 PBC) at 4 p.m.
