The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team gave new coach Tony
Economopoulos his first NCAA head coaching victory with a 3-0
season-opening win over Florida College at Hurricane Field on
Friday afternoon.
Freshman Jennifer Starvetsky scored her first collegiate goal in
the 18th minute off a header from fellow freshman Ally Canganelli
to give the Lady 'Canes a 1-0 advantage.
The lead would remain one goal until early in the second half
when junior Stephanie Patrylo knocked a shot past Florida College
goalkeeper Maggie Day at the 56:04 mark.
Three minutes later, GSW completed the scoring when
freshman Geavonni Bryant punched her first collegiate goal off a
slide from 10 yards out. Patrylo recorded the assist.
Southwestern freshman Amber Bahri notched her first win and
shutout between the pipes. Bahri saved five shots in her
debut. Day saved four for Florida College.
GSW outshot the Lady Falcons 13-6.
The Lady Hurricanes are back in action on Sunday (8/30), hosting
Converse College at 2 p.m.
