Start season 2-0 for first time since
2005
The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team defeated Converse
College 2-0 to win the GSW Invitational on Sunday afternoon at
Hurricane Field.
Geavonni Bryant put Southwestern on the board at the 21:47 mark
when she found the lower right corner of the goal from the middle
of the box for her second goal of the season.
The two teams went back-and-forth until the 85th minute when
Brittney Hill, the Lady 'Canes leading scorer a year ago,
recorded her first goal of the season when she punched a shot into
the upper right corner of the goal past the outstretched arms of
Ashley Mercuri from Converse. Elizabeth Keller led Hill with
a pass to the left corner of the box to earn the assist.
GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri notched her second consecutive
shutout with four saves. On the other side, Mercuri stopped
seven.
The Lady Hurricanes outshot Converse 15-7 and held a 9-2 corner
kicks advantage. GSW's nine corner kicks broke
a single-game school record.
Southwestern is back in action on Tuesday (9/1) at Hurricane
Field against North Alabama. Kick-off is at 4 p.m.
