Freshman guard Evan Mobley scored 22
points and Georgia Southwestern cruised to a season-opening 105-76
win over the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey Saturday afternoon in
Valdosta, Ga.
Five other Hurricanes joined Mobley in
double figures as senior Rick Russell tallied 16 points and seven
rebounds, senior guard Anthony Sargent scored 15, juniors Ric
Roderick and Marcus Scott added 12 points and junior Brandon Sims
chipped in 10. Scott led the 'Canes with eight
rebounds.
GSW led 58-34 at halftime. The
Hurricanes shot 55 percent from the floor in the half, including
7-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Southwestern extended the lead to 31
twice in the second half and Cayey was never closer than 23 down
the stretch.
The Hurricanes outrebounded the Bulls
48-25 and held a 20-2 second-chance points advantage.
GSW (1-0) hosts Carver Bible
College on Sunday (Nov. 16) at 4 p.m.
