Marcus Faison completed his second season as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Georgia Southwestern State University in 2023-24. His efforts aided the Hurricanes into a six-game win improvement and the most wins that the program has had in the past four seasons. During his brief stint in Americus, Marcus has helped recruit two all-conference players.
Prior to his time at GSW, he spent two seasons as an assistant at Brunswick Community College in Bolivia, N.C. With the BCC Dolphins he was involved in all facets of the program. During his stint he helped the Dolphins to the 2021 and 2022 NJCAA Region 10-D1 Regular Season Championships. In his first season in 2021 the Dolphins also won the Region 10-D1 Atlantic District Tournament and participated in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. In addition to his coaching duties at Brunswick CC he served as a Success Coach and Coordinator of the Minority Male Mentoring Program in the Student Services Division.
Faison spent the 2019-20 season at West Brunswick HS in Shallotte, N.C. where he served as a varsity boys coach and head JV coach. During his time at West Brunswick High School the team accumulated the most wins they’ve had in 10 years. Before his time at West Brunswick he spent three seasons as an assistant at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C. where he helped them win back to back Region 10-D1/Atlantic District Championships and make national tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019. Before entering into the junior college ranks he spent five seasons at Methodist University where he served as an assistant men’s basketball coach, residential coordinator and athletic academic advisor. Faison also served as the head coach of the Methodist JV basketball team. His first experience in coaching came as an assistant boys varsity coach and head JV boys basketball coach at Fayetteville Academy in Fayetteville, N.C.
A Wilmington, N.C. native, the Laney High School graduate and basketball player, played collegiate basketball at Caldwell Community College before transferring Methodist University. Faison was an All-Academic Team Member recipient at Caldwell Community College. Marcus holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the area of business administration from Methodist University along with an associate’s degree from Caldwell Community College.
He is married to Christa Faison from Richlands, N.C. and they have a 5-year-old son Alston. They reside in Americus.
