AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern continued its fast start to the 2026 season on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Trevecca Nazarene University 16-6 in seven innings at Hurricane Stadium to secure the series victory.
After two scoreless innings, the Hurricanes' offense erupted for six runs in the third, igniting a game that featured 14 hits, multiple crooked-number innings, and contributions up and down the lineup.
Six-Run Third Breaks It Open
GSW seized control in the bottom of the third, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring six runs without leaving a runner stranded.
After singles from
Edwin Melendez,
Noah Jones, and
Caleb Gipson loaded the bases,
Devon Murphy delivered the big blow—a three-run double to left-center to put the Hurricanes on the board.
Josh McDonald followed with an RBI single before
Evan Wainman capped the inning with a 343-foot, two-run home run to left, pushing the GSW lead to 6-0.
Offense Keeps Rolling
The Hurricanes added four more runs in the fourth, highlighted by McDonald's two-run single and aggressive baserunning that extended the inning.
GSW broke the game wide open in the fifth, scoring six runs on just four hits. McDonald delivered again with a three-run double, while
Drake Harman, Wainman, and
Drew Reaves each drove in runs to stretch the lead to 16-2.
McDonald finished the day 3-for-4 with six RBIs, while Murphy added four RBIs and Wainman drove in three runs to anchor the middle of the lineup.
Seculer Sharp in First Start
On the mound, Jake Seculer earned the win in his first start of the season, working six innings and allowing four runs (one earned) while striking out eight. Seculer limited damage early, retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced and working out of traffic throughout his outing.

Colby Beach and
Wade Johnson closed out the game as the Hurricanes improved to 2-0 on the young season.
