AMERICUS, Ga. — The Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting night Wednesday evening as Flagler College pulled away in the second half for a 75-57 Peach Belt Conference win inside the Storm Dome.
The loss marked the Lady Hurricanes' fifth defeat in their last six games and third straight home loss, dropping GSW to 9-10 overall and 5-7 in league play. Flagler improved to 9-11 overall and 4-8 in the Peach Belt.
GSW shot a season-low 9.1 percent from three-point range (2-of-22) and finished at 42.9 percent from the free-throw line, its second-lowest mark at the stripe this season.
Competitive Start Gives Way to Flagler Run
Georgia Southwestern stayed within striking distance early, trading leads multiple times in the opening quarter.
Madison Brittle connected on a pair of early baskets as the Hurricanes briefly grabbed a 7-3 lead before Flagler answered with a late surge to take a 19-14 advantage after one.
The Saints seized control in the second quarter, using a 17-10 frame to stretch the lead to double digits at the break. Flagler shot 42.9 percent in the period while GSW struggled to find consistency offensively, going 4-for-14 from the floor and 0-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Third Quarter Separation
Flagler delivered the decisive stretch coming out of halftime, outscoring Georgia Southwestern 26-17 in the third quarter. The Saints knocked down three triples in the period and converted at the free-throw line, pushing the margin to as many as 21 late in the quarter.
GSW continued to battle inside, scoring 40 points in the paint for the game, but perimeter shots and free throws proved elusive as Flagler steadily extended its lead.
Late Push Falls Short
The Lady Hurricanes showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring Flagler 16–13 and trimming the deficit with improved ball movement and defensive pressure. However, the early damage was too much to overcome, as Flagler maintained control down the stretch to secure the road victory.
Brittle Leads GSW Effort
Brittle led Georgia Southwestern with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while
Tiara Hozumi added a season-high 11 points off the bench.
Shane' Jackson contributed eight points and three rebounds, and the Hurricanes finished with 27 bench points, outscoring Flagler's reserves.
Despite forcing nine steals and holding a 40–26 edge in points in the paint, GSW was unable to close the gap due to shooting struggles from the perimeter and at the free-throw line.
What It Means
Georgia Southwestern will look to regroup as conference play continues. The Hurricanes were held to 14 assists, matched by Flagler, while the Saints spent over 35 minutes with the lead.
