ALBANY, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern's women's cross country team competed Friday evening at the Willie Laster Invitational hosted by Albany State University at Sherwood Legacy Park. The meet featured a competitive field of 12 teams in the women's 5K race, with Albany State taking the team title.
The Lady Hurricanes finished ninth overall, led by Crystal Lance, who clocked a time of 26:14.7, placing 35th individually. Close behind was Sonja Bernacki in 27:31.7 for 43rd place.
Freshman Luiza Rodrigues continued to show steady improvement in her inaugural season, finishing third among GSW runners and 47th overall. Her time of 28:25.0 marked a personal best, shaving off time from her previous races and reflecting her growing consistency and endurance.
Maggie McDonald (32:55.6) and Madison Griffis (32:59.9) rounded out the scoring five for GSW, helping the team record a cumulative time of 2:28:06 and an average of 29:37 per runner.
Albany State took the team title with a score of 50 and an average time of 21:59, followed closely by Tuskegee and Florida A&M.
The Lady Hurricanes will look to build on this performance as they continue their 2025 campaign.
