ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A red-hot shooting night from Flagler College put the Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team on its heels early, and despite another standout performance from
Ray'ven Robinson, the Lady Hurricanes dropped a 91-70 decision Wednesday evening at Flagler Gym. The loss moves GSW to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in Peach Belt Conference play.
After winning nine straight against the Saints, the Lady Hurricanes have now dropped two in a row in the series.
Robinson Continues Her Scoring Tear
Robinson once again led all scorers, finishing with 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting while knocking down a pair of threes and going 6-for-10 at the line. The junior guard has now:
- Scored 20-plus in two of the last three games
- Reached double figures in scoring in six straight contests
- Pushed her season field goal percentage to 50.5 percent, ranking fourth in the Peach Belt Conference
She was joined in double figures by
Kassidy Neal, who delivered one of her best offensive outings of the season with 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting, along with six rebounds.
Flagler's Shooting Creates Early Separation
GSW hung tough in the opening minutes, even grabbing an early 6–5 lead on a Robinson jumper. But Flagler caught fire from the perimeter and never cooled off. The Saints shot 58.8 percent in the first quarter, drilling five threes, and carried that momentum into a 25-point second period that stretched the deficit to 50-27 at halftime.
For the night, Flagler shot an impressive 55 percent from the floor and hit 10 three-pointers, while its bench piled up 47 points.
Hurricanes Fight Back After the Break
GSW responded with its best offensive stretch in the third quarter, shooting 54.5 percent and getting downhill in transition and early offense.
Madison Brittle added nine points and four assists, while
Shane' Jackson battled inside for nine points and seven rebounds.
The Hurricanes found stretches of rhythm — highlighted by a 6-0 spurt early in the third — but each push was met with timely Flagler answers, often fueled by second-chance points and transition threes.
Saints Maintain Control Down the Stretch
GSW continued to compete in the fourth, shooting 46 percent in the final period and getting late threes from Robinson and
Nini Ovalles, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Flagler finished with a 39-26 rebounding edge and created 17 second-chance points, key separators that kept the Lady Hurricanes from making a late charge.
Next Up
GSW has a week to prepare for Clayton State and their 5:30 p.m. matchup Wednesday in the Storm Dome.
