Lady Canes Throw a Block Party in 81-49 Win Over AUM

Jackson Headlines with 30-Point Perfomance

AMERICUS, Ga. — The Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team turned Saturday afternoon into a record-setting showcase inside the Storm Dome. Behind a milestone performance from junior Shane' Jackson, the lone returner from last year's roster, the Lady Hurricanes dominated Auburn Montgomery, 81-49, to move to 3-2 on the season.

Jackson delivered one of the greatest individual outings in program history: 30 points, 11 rebounds, and a nearly flawless 14-for-15 effort from the field. Her 93.3 percent shooting marks the best single-game field goal percentage in program history with at least 10 attempts, while the scoring and rebound tallies each set new collegiate career highs.

And while Jackson starred on the offensive end, GSW's defense authored its own history. The Lady Hurricanes recorded the most blocked shots in a game in program history, swatting away 15 AUM attempts and deterring dozens more.

Storming Out Front

GSW set the tone early, scoring the game's first four points and never looking back. The Lady Hurricanes built a 20-9 lead after one quarter and pushed the margin to 37-23 at the half, anchored by Jackson's 13 early points and a defensive front that held AUM to just 21% shooting across the opening 20 minutes.

Then came the third-quarter avalanche.

GSW exploded for 27 points on 76.9 percent shooting, turning defensive stops into transition chances and half-court efficiency. Jackson scored 14 in the period alone, powering the Hurricanes to a commanding 64-39 lead entering the fourth.

A Full-Team Statement

While Jackson was the headline, the production came from everywhere:
  • Ray'ven Robinson: 12 points, 3-of-6 from deep, and timely scoring throughout the second and third quarters.
  • Janiya Johnson: 10 points, three steals, and a team-high five assists as she helped steer the GSW attack.
  • Kassidy Neal: 11 rebounds and five blocks, anchoring a frontcourt that bullied the Warhawks all afternoon.
  • Makenzie Kelly added 8 points off the bench and a pair of assists.
GSW's bench erupted for 53 points, outscoring the AUM reserves by 43.
  • Defensively, the numbers were staggering:
  • 15 blocks (program record)
  • 23 points off turnovers
  • Held AUM to 21.7 percent shooting, including just 2-for-7 from three
  • Allowed only 12 points in the paint
Jackson's Masterpiece

Jackson's afternoon will sit near the top of several program lists for years to come:
  • 30 points — first 30-point game of her collegiate career
  • 11 rebounds — first collegiate double-double
  • 14-for-15 FG — best FG percentage in GSW history (min. 10 attempts)
  • Scored in every quarter, including 8 straight during a key third-quarter run
