BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Georgia Southwestern State University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw on the road Wednesday afternoon against the University of South Carolina Beaufort at Fin Land Field in Peach Belt Conference play.
The Lady Canes fought back from an early deficit to secure a valuable conference point, moving to 4-5-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the PBC.
USC Beaufort (8-1-2, 3-1-2 PBC), ranked No. 6 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region poll, took the lead in the 15th minute when Jasiah Pack scored her seventh goal of the season off an assist from Sophia Willis. GSW goalkeeper Alana Beddow kept the Lady Canes within striking distance, making several key saves as the Sand Sharks recorded 11 first-half shots.
GSW found the equalizer in the 77th minute when Ella Moody converted from the penalty spot, netting her fourth goal of the season to draw the match level.
Beddow turned in one of her best performances of the year, finishing with a season-high 12 saves while facing 20 total shots. The Lady Canes generated 11 shots of their own, placing eight on target and forcing seven combined saves from the USC Beaufort goalkeeping duo.
The draw snapped a two-match losing streak to the Sand Sharks, moving the all-time series to 0-2-2. It also continued a strong defensive stretch for Georgia Southwestern, which has allowed one goal or fewer in four of its last five matches.
