AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team improved its record to 2-0-1 with a 3-0 victory over Shorter University on a rainy Wednesday night at Hurricane Field. Anwar Benkandil led GSW with a goal and an assist.
Dante Johnson put GSW ahead in the 34th minute and the Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead into the break. Benkandil punched in his second goal of the season in the 83rd minute and Daniel Romero-Ramos rounded out the scoring four minutes later.
GSW dominated multiple offensive categories, including shots (26-4) and corner kicks (9-0). It's the first time the Hurricanes held an opponent without a corner kick at home under head coach Eric Crawford (2019) and overall since Sept. 3, 2022, at Embry-Riddle.
Goalkeeper Noah Kasin made two saves for the Hurricanes and turned in his second clean sheet in three matches.
Next up is a trip to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (1-1) on Sunday for a 2 p.m. EDT non-conference match.
