AMERICUS, Ga. -- Divin Moke scored twice and the Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team rattled off five consecutive goals to blow past Talladega College, 6-2, on Wednesday evening at Hurricane Field. The six goals matched Georgia Southwestern's second-highest output during the program's NCAA era. The Hurricanes scored eight times last season in a win over Shaw University and posted a 6-1 win over Florida College in 2008.
GSW improved its record to 2-1 at home this fall and snapped a four-match losing streak to improve to 2-4 overall. Talladega fell to 2-7-1.
Moke opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he took a pass from Bryan Zuniga and cut past a defender to provide the space to give the Hurricanes an early lead with his fourth goal of the fall. Talladega answered in the 31st minute when its leading scorer, Isamnia Cohen, found the back of the net.
From there GSW was relentless in its attack and pounded the back of the net with five consecutive scores. Freshman Sebastian Da Silva kicked things off with his first collegiate goal in the 38th minute off a rebound from a shot by Sean Mckeevar. Rafael Faria drilled a shot from long range moments before halftime (43:15) to put the Hurricanes up, 3-1.
GSW picked up where it left off after the break when Zuniga scored 3:36 into the second half for his third goal of the season. Kellan O'Hara got into the mix with a goal in the 59th minute and Moke delivered his bookend goal for the Hurricanes with a score in the 71st minute.
GSW outshot Talladega, 24-17. The Tornadoes took one more corner kick, 6-5, and committed four more fouls, 16-12. A total of 11 yellow cards were issued in the physical affair and Talladega received a red card with 23 minutes remaining.
Moke led all players with seven shots and O'Hara took five for the Hurricanes. GSW keeper Oneil Lewis made five saves.
Up Next: The Hurricanes have the weekend off before returning to the pitch on Wednesday with a trip to Southern Wesleyan University for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference match.
