No. 14 Armstrong Sweep Lady 'Canes

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Freshman Ella Hawkins had the only run in Georgia Southwestern's softball doubleheader loss to No. 14 ranked Armstrong State Saturday at Armstrong Softball Field.

GSW is now 24-30 and 7-15 in the Peach Belt Conference while Armstrong State improved to 34-10 overall and 18-4 in the PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 0, ASU 9

Armstrong scored one run in the first and started the second with two consecutive singles. After an error on the first baseman bases were loaded for the Pirates. Armstrong scored in the next two plays and with two outs and one on base hit a two-run homer to lead by six.

The Pirates hit a three-run home run in the fifth to run rule GSW and win in five innings.

GSW finished with one hit, no runs, no RBIs and three errors.

Brittany Childs (L, 7-9) pitched 4.1 innings, faced 23 batters, had six hits, nine runs, walked one and struck out two.

GAME 2: GSW 1, ASU 9

Armstrong scored two in the first and five more in the second off a fielders choice and a four-run home run to take another early lead.

Allee Denney hit a single up the middle to plate Hawkins for GSW's lone run of the game.

Armstrong scored two more in the sixth to run rule the Lady 'Canes and win in six innings.

GSW finished with eight hits, one run, one RBI and one error.

Denney was 2-3 at the plate.

Haley Goodson (L, 9-12) pitched 5.1 innings, faced 33 batters, had 10 hits, nine runs, walked three and struck out none.

The Lady 'Canes are away on Sunday to play their last conference doubleheader against Flagler College starting at 1 p.m.
