Carrollton, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern took a break from Peach Belt Conference action Wednesday as the Hurricanes traveled to Carrollton, Ga. for a mid-week, out-of-conference showdown against the West Georgia Wolves.

West Georgia (23-18) raced out to the early lead through the first five innings of play as the Wolves scored five runs off four hits with one GSW error to give UWG the early advantage, 5-1.

GSW used a two-RBI single from Jarrod Taylor in the top of the sixth inning to inch closer, 5-3.

West Georgia extended their lead in the seventh inning as the Wolves used a pair of hits in order to punch in three runs as the Wolves held a comfortable 8-3 advantage.

The Hurricanes rallied in the top of the ninth as Southwestern's bats lit up.

GSW scored four runs off five hits as the 'Canes drew within a run. With a runner in scoring position, the rally came up short, however, as Stephen Eldridge struck out swinging as UWG held on for the victory, 8-7.

Taylor led Georgia Southwestern at the plate as the junior went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. As a team, the Southwestern scored seven runs off nine hits.

Starting GSW pitcher Justin Lott (1-2) was credited with the loss for the 'Canes as the right-handed senior threw for 3.2 innings giving up three runs off three hits with four walks.

Georgia Southwestern returns to action this Saturday as the 'Canes travel to Flagler for a three-game series with the Saints. The series will be held at Bishop Kenney High School in Jacksonville, Fla.
