No. 24 Augusta State Shoots Past Lady Hurricanes

AMERICUS, Ga. - Augusta State used a hot shooting first half to run past the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes on a Saturday afternoon Homecoming matinee in the Storm Dome.

The Lady Jaguars simply couldn't miss to start off the contest as Augusta State raced out to a 29-18 first half lead on perfect shooting, (12-12 from the field, 3-3 from the free throw line) with under ten minutes remaining in the half.

Tanchelle Hollingsworth's 14 first half points (5-of-6 shooting) paced ASU.

The Lady 'Canes weathered the hot shooting storm however as freshman forward Jasmine McSwain poured in 13 first half points of her own as Georgia Southwestern only found themselves down nine, 42-33, at intermission despite Augusta State's 68 percent shooting (17-25).

In the second half, ASU got off to another quick start as the Lady Jaguars outscored GSW 18-7 to extend their lead to 20 points, 60-40, with just under ten minutes remaining.

ASU's lead proved too much for the Lady Hurricanes to overcome as the Blue & Gold dropped their 13th consective game, 78-56.

McSwain led GSW (3-21, 1-16 PBC) with 18 points while Danisha Green chipped in 14 points and totaled four thefts on the afternoon.

Three players finished in double figures for Augusta State led by Hollingsworth's 20 points.

Tiffany Jaecks and Becky Newhouse finished with 13 points apiece for the 24th-ranked Lady Jaguars (17-5, 10-5 PBC).

Georgia Southwestern will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 23, as the Lady Hurricanes travel to take on Clayton State for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
