Lady Hurricanes Roar Past Truett-McConnell

AMERICUS, Ga. - Coming off a tough opening season stretch, the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes only needed the comfortable surroundings of the Storm Dome in order to notch their first victory of the 2012-13 season.

Southwestern started fast, as the guard duo of Danisha Green and Stormey Smith combined for 25 points as GSW (1-5) raced out to a 34-17 first half lead against Truett-McConnell (0-8).

The Blue and Gold never looked back as they used an intense full court pressure defense down the stretch to put away the Lady Bears, 80-39.

The Lady 'Canes capitalized from their aggressive defense as they scored 23 points off of 27 Lady Bear turnovers.

Georgia Southwestern outrebounded their opponent for the time this season as they held a 45-42 rebounding advantage over TMC.

Freshman forward Jasmine McSwain led GSW with 17 points and seven rebounds on the night.

Green had a solid all around performance finishing with her first career double double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. The junior also added four assists.

Smith was the third GSW player to finish in double figures as she finished with a career high 13 points and snatched four takeaways on the evening.

Kelsey Montgomery led Truett-McConnell with nine points.

Georgia Southwestern, who opened the season with four out their first five games away from Americus, will have a two week break and then hit the road once again as they travel to Milledgeville Tuesday, Dec. 11, to tip off Peachbelt Conference action against Georgia College. The tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
