MOUNT VERNON - Andrew Anderson couldn't have picked a better time to belt his first home run of the season, as his 10th-inning shot on Tuesday night lifted Georgia Southwestern to a 3-2 win over Brewton-Parker College at Baron Field.
The win snapped a four-game losing skid for GSW and improves their overall mark to 13-10 this spring. Brewton-Parker falls to 16-7. The Barons have lost four straight to the Hurricanes in GSW's NCAA era.
The Hurricanes jumped ahead of Brewton-Parker early when Andrew Archer drove in two runs in the first on a single up the middle.
GSW maintained the 2-0 advantage until the sixth. Brewton-Parker loaded the bases with one out, but a sacrifice fly from Fernando Frias was all the damage done and the Hurricanes held the lead until the eighth.
After a one-out BPC double from Errick Fox, Derrick Fox singled to right to drive home the tying run.
The score remained tied at 2-2 until the 10th when Anderson took an 0-1 pitch over the left-field wall.
Anderson and John Duran finished the game with two hits apiece to lead the Hurricanes.
Errick Fox went 3-for-3 for Brewton-Parker.
Gray Carden improved to 3-0 after throwing the final 2 2/3 innings for GSW without allowing a run. Carden scattered four hits and struck out four. Starter Matt Weaver pitched six innings, gave up one run, did not walk a batter and struck out five. Hunter Thompson allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Jacob Gore (4-3) takes the loss for Brewton-Parker. Gore pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, gave up three hits and struck out four.
The Hurricanes return to Americus on Thursday to entertain West Georgia at 5 p.m.
