The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team was unable to answer
a 76th minute goal from Thomas University and dropped a 1-0
decision to the Night Hawks on Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane
Field.
Gary Watkins scored his sixth goal of the season for TU at the
75:56 mark when he punched in teammate Rowan Liburd's missed shot
that had bounced off the left post.
The GSW defense and goalkeeper David Porley were resilient
all afternoon and able to keep the match close. Porley made nine
saves on the day, with several coming down the stretch. Andi Hoffer
stopped three for TU.
Thomas (4-1-3) held a 10-3 shots on goal advantage
and led 8-4 in corner kicks.
Southwestern (1-5) opens Peach Belt Conference play on
Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Florence, S.C. against Francis Marion.
