The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams lost to West Alabama on
Friday evening at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. The women came
up a match short for the third time this spring in another 5-4
defeat, while the men stopped play after UWA had secured a 5-2
advantage. On Saturday, the women's team defeated Clark
Atlanta, 7-2, in Albany.

The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team fell to West
Alabama, 5-4, in a non-conference matchup at the Susan K.
Smith Tennis Complex on Friday evening.
The Lady Hurricanes fell behind 2-1 after doubles action, and
that was the difference, as the two teams split the six singles
matches.
Leady Cuellar was the only GSW player to win in doubles and
singles play. Cuellar faced her younger sister, Angy, in both
matches. She teamed with Lauren Grogan to defeat Angy Cuellar and
Brittney Bowden 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Cuellar went on to top
her sister 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Mollie McGowan won for GSW at No. 2 singles defeating Emily
Garding 7-5, 6-1. Monica Osam was victorious in a marathon match at
No. 4 over Brittany Harris 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
It was the third time in the last five matches that Southwestern
has lost 5-4.

The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team rebounded
from Friday night's loss to upend Clark Atlanta, 7-2, on
Saturday afternoon at the Albany State University tennis courts.
The Lady Hurricanes took a 2-1 lead after doubles action won
five of six singles matches to improve their record to 5-11.
Leady Cuellar, Mollie McGowan and Melina Vansant won on both the
doubles and singles sides against CAU.
Cuellar teamed with Lauren Grogan to defeat Keva Palmer and
Tyranda Starks 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. McGowan and Vansant were
victorious at No. 3 with an 8-1 decision over Cydney Reid and
Sylvia Carr.
In singles play, Cuellar won at No. 1 against Palmer 6-1, 6-1 to
improve her singles record to 10-6 this spring. McGowan defeated
Kasey Dawson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Monica Osam was victorious at No. 4
with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sophia Dawson. Vansant cruised to a 6-0,
6-0 win at No. 5 over Reid. Katie Adamson held Carr without a game
in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
The Lady 'Canes travel to Tuskegee on Tuesday (3/23) for a
3 p.m. match.

The Hurricanes (3-8) fell behind 2-1 after doubles action and
took one of four singles matches before play was called after UWA
had secured five points and the win.
Southwestern's lone win in doubles came at No. 1 where Victor
Piñones-Haltenhoff and Ryan Bartz defeated Lucas Nunez and
Lucas Cruz 8-6.
Piñones-Haltenhoff was the 'Canes only
double-winner, picking up a victory at No. 1
singles, defeating Alvaro De Le Torre 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
Sebastian Munoz lost in three sets at No. 4 to James
Gardner 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Rashad Carson lost a first
set tiebreaker for the Hurricanes at No. 5, eventually falling
7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to Wade Covington.
Southwestern is back in action on Tuesday (3/23) with a 3
p.m. match at Tuskegee.
