AUGUSTA — Ryan Lackey and Jody Sellars pitched Georgia
Southwestern to a pair of wins at Augusta State on Saturday.
Lackey went six innings and struck out nine in a 6-2 win, and
Sellars went eight in the nightcap, striking out eight in an 8-3
win.
The Hurricanes committed no errors on the day, and the Jaguars
stranded 22 in the doubleheader.
GSW (14-6, 6-2 PBC) took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of Game
1, and that's all the runs the pitching staff would need.
Augusta (8-18, 0-8) scored two in the first, and that would be it.
GSW added a run in the second and ninth innings as the Hurricanes
are tied with North Georgia for second place in the West division.
Jared Allen had three hits in the game, and Bud Long, Byron
Haynes and Michael Coffey all had two. Long had a double, and
Haynes had two RBI.
Both teams had 11 hits in the contest.
Game 2 saw a lot of hits as well as the Jaguars had a 12-7 edge.
GSW's four-run third inning was the difference. Haynes hit
his sixth home run of the season in the frame, this one being a
3-run shot.
The Hurricanes tacked on two more runs in the fourth and eighth
innings, with the final two being unearned.
Zack Stanton and Trent Dooley had two hits apiece, including
Dooley's sixth double of the season.
Sellars (5-1) allowed three runs on 12 hits in getting his fifth
win of the season, good for second in the conference.
The teams finish the series today, starting at 1 p.m.
