Thoughts of the postseason took a hit on Saturday afternoon at
Hurricane Field as the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team
dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to USC Aiken.
Michael Ardrey notched his first score of the season for
the Pacers, and the lone goal of the match, from eight
yards in the 19th minute when his shot towards the top of
the goal clipped GSW goalkeeper David Porley's fingertips and
trickled inside the right post, just over the white line.
The Hurricanes were unable to convert their few serious
scoring opportunities the rest of the way.
In a match that saw little offense, USC Aiken (2-10-2,
1-6-1 PBC) finished with an 8-4 shots on goal advantage and led 5-3
in corner kicks.
It was the fifth 1-0 loss of the season for GSW and seventh
time the Hurricanes have lost by a single goal.
Goalkeeper David
Porley finished with seven saves for the
Hurricanes. Robert Bolender stopped four for USC
Aiken.
Southwestern (2-11, 1-6) must win on Wednesday at Flagler
to qualify for the PBC Tournament. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
