For the second time in as many days, the Georgia Southwestern
men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Hurricane Field. Sunday
afternoon a converted penalty kick by Eckerd College in the 16th
minute was the difference.
At the 15:43 mark, Eckerd's Luke Sheekey made the most of a
dubious GSW foul in the box by converting a penalty kick for what
turned out to be the lone score of the match. The foul was one of
only four committed by the Hurricanes on the afternoon.
Both sides played a man down the final 26 minutes of the match
after a pair of red cards were handed out over a two minute span in
the second half.
Eckerd outshot GSW 15-8 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner
kicks.
GSW goalkeeper David Porley stopped six. EC goalie Domenic
Spedaliere recorded the shutout with three saves.
Jesse Davis and Taylor Jennings led the 'Canes offense with two
shots apiece.
Game three of the Hurricanes four-game homestand is Wednesday
against Brewton-Parker College at 4 p.m.
