The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team opened Peach Belt
Conference play with a 2-0 loss to Georgia College & State
University on Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
The Lady Hurricanes held GCSU scoreless in the first half.
At the 51:46 mark, Georgia College broke the tie with a 35 yard
bomb from Daria Owen that slid in under the cross bar for her
second goal of the season. Anna Wierzbicki flicked in her
first goal of the season a little more than three minutes later off
an assist from Megan McAlpin to round out the scoring.
Southwestern goalkeeper Amber Bahri stayed busy and recorded
nine saves. Mary Rob Plunkett made the lone stop for GCSU.
Georgia College (5-3-1, 1-0 PBC) outshot the Lady
'Canes 23-1 and held a 7-0 advantage in corner
kicks.
GSW (3-4-0, 0-1) travels to Savannah on Saturday to take on
No. 19-ranked Armstrong Atlantic.
