Kevin Carroll's sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of
the 12th inning, gave GSW a 4-3 baseball victory over
Auburn-Montgomery Wednesday evening at Hurricane Field.
Southwestern improved to 8-9 overall. AUM, ranked no. 18
nationally in NAIA, fell to 9-8.
AUM took a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the first and second
innings. GSW answered with runs in the home half of the third
and the fifth to tie the game.
It stayed tied 2-2 until the ninth. Back-to-back two-out doubles
gave the Senators the lead. However, Tanner Williams was thrown out
at third attempting to stretch his hit into a triple for the final
out of the frame. In the 'Canes half of the ninth, pinch
hitter Cody Adams roped a one-out double to score Carroll from
second. Southwestern was unable to close out the game as the last
two batters recorded outs.
In the 12th for GSW, after Bud Long reached on an error,
Francisco Gomez and Noble Coley were walked to set the stage for
Carroll's game-winning sacrifice fly.
Shane Moye was AUM's only player with multiple hits, going
2-for-4 with a double.
Zack Stanton led four Hurricanes with multi-hit nights, going
3-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Long went
3-for-6 with a run and stolen base, as well. Carroll added two hits
and two run while knocking in the game-winning RBI and Chris
Lingham had two hits and a stolen base.
Bud Fuller (1-2) pitched three innings of scoreless relief to
get the win. Wade Skinner (0-1) pitched the final 2.2 innings for
AUM and took the loss. Both starting pitchers performed well as the
Hurricanes' Jody Sellars and Auburn-Montgomery's Ridgely Plaines
got no-decisions.
The Hurricanes travel to Florida Southern for a weekend series
starting on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
