GSW dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Columbus
State on Tuesday afternoon, 8-4 and 7-4.
Game one was scoreless until the fourth inning when CSU scored
four runs. The Lady Cougars added another two in the fifth to push
their lead to 6-0. GSW got on the board with a three-run sixth to
cut the Columbus State lead in half. The Lady 'Canes knocked
five hits in the frame, led by freshman Katie Wooten's third double
of the season.
Columbus State answered with another two runs in the bottom of
the sixth to extend the lead to 8-3 and GSW added a run in the
seventh on freshman Brooke McLemore's first collegiate home run to
complete the scoring.
GSW starting pitcher Jessica Martin (1-4) took the loss allowing
four runs in four innings of work.
McLemore, Wooten, Gabby Buck and Nichole Griffin had multi-hit
games for the Lady 'Canes.
In the nightcap, the Columbus State (10-11, 2-0 PBC) scored four
runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie en route to a 7-4
victory.
Heather Denny hit her first collegiate home run and Wooten hit a
two-run shot four batters later for Southwestern in their three-run
fourth inning. The Lady 'Canes added a run in the seventh to
complete their scoring.
Tiffany Milstid (0-2) took the loss, pitching five innings,
allowing 10 hits and five runs.
Griffin, Heather Chambers and Heather Denny had multi-hit games for
the Lady 'Canes.
GSW (5-9, 0-2 PBC) travels to Flagler on Friday for a
doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
