Game Recap: Softball |

Great pitching not enough for GSW vs. Rollins

Georgia Southwestern pitchers did not allow an earned run over 15 innings in a doubleheader against Rollins College Saturday afternoon at Lady 'Canes Field, however the offense could manage only three hits and GSW was defeated 1-0 - in nine innings - and 2-0.

In game one, the Tars broke up a scoreless game in the ninth inning when a one out ground ball to Nichole Griffin in the hole at short brought in Christine Roser from third.

GSW managed only two hits off Rollins starter Nicole Anderson (5-0) who threw her second complete-game shutout of the season. Anderson struck out 12 and did not walk a batter.

Three pitchers were used in the game for GSW with Kimberlee Tolbert (0-2) taking the loss in two innings of work.

In the nightcap, Rollins (8-1) scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning to get the win.

A one out error followed by two singles and a sacrifice fly produced all the offense the Tars would need in the game.

Rachael Foster (3-1) threw her second complete-game shutout of the season. Foster struck out 16 batters - including 11 in a row- and did not walk a batter.

A leadoff single in the sixth by Southwestern's Shea Weaver broke up Foster's bid for a perfect game.

Three pitchers were used in the game for GSW. Starter Jessica Martin (1-2) went three innings, allowing the two runs - both unearned - on four hits in the loss.

GSW (4-6) travels down the road to Albany State on Monday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
