Jared Allen and Noble Coley led six Hurricanes who had multiple
RBI with four apiece as Georgia Southwestern won a slugfest with
Albany State, 19-12, on Wednesday.
Allen started things with a two-run home run in the first inning
and a two-run single in the second as GSW (3-5) built an early 5-0
lead before putting the game out of reach with 11 combined runs in
the seventh and eighth innings.
Chris Lingham and Bud Long scored four times in the 1-2 slots in
the lineup, and Lingham had a leadoff triple to begin the game.
Coley, Zack Stanton, Byron Haynes and Shane Doyle all had
doubles, with Coley's and Stanton's driving in two runs in the
fourth and seventh innings.
Long, Stanton and Doyle all finished with three RBI.
The Hurricanes finished with 17 hits compared with 11 for the
Rams (2-3), but they also had four errors. Eight players finished
with two hits for GSW.
Jody Sellars started the game on the mound and fell one out
short of the win, going 4.2 innings and allowing three runs on
four hits. Tyler Daniel and Brandon Reeder pitched in middle
relief, with Reeder earning the win in after his 1.1 innings
of work, while Chris Carroll finished the last two innings.
Albany State pulled to within 8-5 entering the seventh when GSW
exploded for five runs.
GSW left 10 on base, compared with eight for Albany State, and the
Hurricanes only struck out twice.
The Hurricanes return to action today when they host No.
9-ranked Lynn University at 4 p.m. at Hurricane Field.
