The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team scored four times in
the second half en route to a 5-1 victory over LaGrange College on
Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field. The Hurricanes had
four different players record goals in the match.
Will Phillips opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he picked
up a loose ball inside the box and drilled a shot past LaGrange
goalkeeper Josh Murphy for his second goal of the fall.
The 'Canes scored quickly out of the halftime break as
Kacey Barnard put GSW up 2-0 off an assist from Yimi Reyes in the
55th minute. Ross Sellers increased the lead to three when he
delivered his second goal of the season off a long pass from Sean
Howe at the 68:30 mark.
Edgardo Gonzalez's shot in the 82nd minute was knocked into the
goal by a sliding LaGrange defender in a save attempt.
After Ryan Wakenigg posted LaGrange's lone goal of the match in
the 86th minute; Taylor Jennings converted a penalty kick less than
a minute later to complete the scoring.
Kevin Huet finished with one save for GSW between the pipes.
Murphy stopped one for LaGrange (2-7). Georgia Southwestern
outshot LaGrange 15-7 and held a 7-3 corner kick advantage.
The 'Canes are now 3-0 all-time against the Panthers.
Southwestern (2-9) returns to Peach Belt Conference
play on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. travelling to UNC
Pembroke.
