The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team lost 2-1 on a goal by
Flagler College in the 89th minute on Saturday afternoon at
Hurricane Field. Junior Derek Schicker scored the lone goal for the
'Canes.
The two teams were scoreless until the 70th minute when Johan
Bergfeld scored on a header for Flagler (2-1) off a corner kick
from Conor Killeen.
GSW answered minutes later when Schicker dribbled through the
middle of the Saints defense and found the back of the net from 12
yards out at the 84:29 mark.
However, the Saints dealt the final blow in the 89th minute when
Neil Patrickson dropped a header into the lower left corner of the
goal off a pass from Danny Burke.
Sophomore John Scharnikow tallied three saves for GSW. Chandler Gay
stopped one for Flagler. The Saints outshot GSW 12-8 and led 9-3 in
corner kicks. The Hurricanes committed 20 fouls, compared to
11 by Flagler.
With the loss, the Hurricanes fall to 0-3. GSW is back in action
on Monday at 4 p.m. hosting West Florida.
