COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team
lost 5-0 to the University of West Georgia on Friday
afternoon in the first game of the Peach Belt vs. Gulf South
Invitational hosted by Columbus State.
UWG took the lead early when Melanie
Kilburn knocked in a shot by teammate Samantha Jones that
deflected off the post just shy of four minutes into the
match.
In the 14th minute the Wolves (4-2-1) scored again when
Angie Jolley knocked in her third goal of the season.
Ericka Harvey drove a loose ball between the pipes from
the front of the box at the 22:20 mark to give UWG a three
goal lead.
Cydney Raymond added a goal before the half for the Wolves off
an assist from Harvey.
The same duo teamed for the final goal of the match in the 67th
minute.
Christy Drabek tallied eight saves for GSW. West
Georgia starting goalkeeper Jenny Ross stopped two in 45
minutes of work. Patricia Logsdon had three saves in her 45
minutes for UWG. The Wolves outshot GSW 25-7 and
led 6-2 in corner kicks.
The Lady Canes (2-5) are back in action on Sunday when
they return to Columbus to face Alabama-Huntsville at 3
p.m. in their final game of the Peach Belt vs. Gulf South
Invitational.
