D.J. Decker was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a homer, and Nick Rex
was 4-for-6 with a triple from the leadoff spot, but the visiting
Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes lost in 10 innings Wednesday night
at Auburn University at Montgomery, 12-11.
GSW's top four batters of Rex, Jordan Mullis, Daniel Lynn and
Decker (shown in photo) combined for 10 of the team's 13 hits only
to be outdone by AUM's top four hitters. Cody Shields, Shane Moye
and Carlton Melton each had three hits and Allen Ponder had two as
the Senators beat the Hurricanes for a second time this season.
They won 4-3 in 13 innings in Americus on March 4.
GSW (15-29) held a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the fourth
when AUM responded with three runs. The Senators took a 9-6 lead
into the seventh when the Hurricanes scored four. AUM went back on
top with two in the bottom of the frame and GSW tied the game in
the eighth.
The Senators scored the winning run in the 10th.
Lynn had two triples, and Pat McCarthy and Zack Stanton each
homered for GSW. Moye and Chase Burch homered for AUM (36-16), and
Burch drove in three runs. Melton and Ponder each had two RBIs.
The Hurricanes will travel to North Georgia for a three-game series
starting on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1
p.m.
