AMERICUS, GA - The Lady 'Canes of Georgia Southwestern
State University lost another heartbreaker Saturday afternoon to
the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. It was the last home
game of the season for GSW, and the Lady Brave left with a 66-48
victory.
It was a slow start for both teams, as they combined for only 4
points in the first five minutes of the game. The Lady Hurricanes
were able to pick up some speed as the game progressed, but not
enough to keep up with the Lady Braves as UNC-Pembroke led 32-18 at
the half. Although the Lady 'Canes were only outscored by
four points in the second half, they still fell short at the final
buzzer.
Krystal Thomas, a sophomore from Valdosta, scored 11 points and
pulled down 3 rebounds to lead GSW. Brittany Reynolds also
contributed eight points and four rebounds to the effort. Victoria
Willis poured in 17 points to pace the Lady Braves while DeNeer
Davis scored 12 points and 10 rebounds for the game's only
double-double. Natalie Ray also contributed 10 points and five
rebounds to UNC-Pembroke's winning effort.
GSW falls to 1-25 for the season and 0-19 in PBC action while
UNC-Pembroke improves to 9-16 and 4-14 in conference play. The Lady
Canes finish their season Saturday, March 1 at Augusta State
University.
