VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta State women's
basketball team defeated Georgia Southwestern, 68-51 in the
Lady Hurricanes final non-conference game of the 2008-09 season on
Tuesday evening at the VSU P.E. Complex.
A three-point basket by Sczeny Hartry gave the Lady Blazers a
7-4 lead with 16:49 left in the first half and VSU led the rest of
the way. Southwestern trailed 32-20 at the half.
The Lady Blazers shot 47.9 percent from the field and 43.8
percent on seven of 16 from three-point range. Valdosta State's
defense held GSW to just 9.1 percent from behind the arc and 38
percent overall.
Brandi Burris, Nadirah Gardner and Terra Branch each scored 10
points for Southwestern. Burris pulled down a game-high nine
rebounds.
VSU was led by Michelle Thompson's 23 points. Brittany Hudson
scored 12 points and gathered eight rebounds and five steals
while Hartry added 12 points.
The Lady Hurricanes return home on Saturday for a 2 p.m.
